Cal Ripken cancelled his scheduled appearance on Imus's show because of the storm over his rambling putdowns of a bunch of he-she basketball players at Rutgers. Now here's a laughable and overdone statement:
Head coach C. Vivian Stringer said her players "are the best this nation has to offer, and we are so very fortunate to have them at Rutgers University. They are young ladies of class, distinction. They are articulate, they are gifted. They are God's representatives in every sense of the word."
We all know what Imus said:
Imus started the firestorm after the Rutgers team, which includes eight black women, lost the championship game. He was speaking with producer Bernard McGuirk and said "that's some rough girls from Rutgers. Man, they got tattoos ..."
"Some hardcore hos," McGuirk said.
These chicks do have tatoos and they do look rough and they do look manly - so what's the point here? Oh I see, more racism. You can make fun of white people, or Catholics, or Southerners, but don't touch the African-Americans with your comedy insults. Typically, these female college athletic teams are busting at the seams with big-time lesbians, so, while they are indeed tremendous athletes, let's drop the "ladies of distinction and class" characterization, eh? And I wish Imus would stop stooping to apologize to the masses of asses that are raging in his wake.
