Regardng Laurence Vance's blog about the latest Claremontista propaganda, it should be pointed out that nearly everything published by Claremont on the topic of Lincon is a whitewash and reads like a defense brief in "The War Crimes Trial of Abraham Lincoln." This time, it's a whitewash of the growing evidence that Lincoln was bisexual. And whitewash is the correct word, since they did not include anyone with a contrary point of view.
Laurence is right, of course, that Lincoln's sexuality is irrelevant. What is telling, however, is the phoniness of Claremont's "scholarship" in which they praise the "great scholarship" of each other while tolerating no dissent to The Official Line. Also relevant is the blatant anti-homosexual bias of this whole enterprise, including all the authors chosen by Alan Guelzo, one of the Claremontista's favorite word twisters and whitewashers. There is no search for truth in the Claremontista publication at issue here, only a desperate attempt to "prove" that Lincoln was not gay despite some very convincing evidence that he was in fact bisexual.
The only logical explanation for why they have gone to such extremes to "prove" Lincoln's heterosexuality is that the Claremontistas, who fashion themselves as our self-appointed moral compasses, are crudely homophobic. If they were interested in searching for historical truths they would allow at least one opposing viewpoint to be expressed and then challenge the speaker face to face like, well, men. Instead, they conduct themselves like conniving little weasels. This time they have outdone themselves in terms of their trademark silliness and fakery.
