Although I've been bashing the federal power play more than the Florida courts, I am inclined to think they ruled very wrongly – however, I cannot claim to know for sure. But from what I've seen, I would say they're probably very wrong.
I, for one, do not believe in the "sanctity," "legitimacy," "wisdom" or even "sovereignty" of local and state court decisions, as much as I believe there is absurdity and danger in a more central power intervening. Courts, legislatures and executives are all horrible, at all levels. But, in this case, I believe that as a long-term matter, the Congressional move is very problematic. My views of decentralism flow from libertarianism and anarchism -- from the notion that if government is bad, a massive government that oversees government is probably also bad -– not from some faith in the court system. Though, I do think the judiciary is often overemphasized as if it's the only or most tyranncal branch of government.
Aside from Congress, there are certainly other condemnable and questionable parties in this tragic episode.
