Unlike some libertarians, I think war is worse than the minimum wage. However, the minimum wage is a horrendous assault on economic liberty that, just like most Progressive-Era programs, hurts the very people it is supposedly intended to help. But I can deal with leftists who are good on war but bad on the minimum wage, even as I argue with them over it.
What do we think about the nationalist conservatives like Michael Savage who support minimum wage? Like O'Reilly, Savage is a populist protectionist, who envisions an ideal state to defeat Islamo-fascism, somehow keep all the immigrants and drugs that poison our culture from entering the country, and place high tariffs on cheap goods from other countries. Also like O'Reilly, Savage supports the minimum wage and lashes out at the rich fat cats. Why then does he so strongly oppose leftist arguments along the same line? Well, Savage, who thinks the state should round up all the homeless and throw them into state holding tanks, seems to be like a lot of Republicans on this issue. Remember, it was the Republicans who gave us the minimum wage.
Yeah, I know, he might still sound good on an issue or two, but this is a guy who would think nothing of nuking away all the Arab "cockroaches" and who advocates Lincolnian and World War II-style censorship. No surprise then that he believes the state can guarantee everyone a good income. After all, I remember back when Savage was screaming about Bush's alleged stealing of his own term, "Compassionate Conservatism."
