The War That We Have ….

… Not the war that the neocons wanted, is what we’re stuck with. They promised a cakewalk and “Mission Accomplished,” but now Rumsfeld must send ever more troops, Jihad fodder. Or so the neocons insist, as they persevere towards empire, on their road paved with lies and rapacious, murderous self-indulgence.

They lied through their teeth, and LRC, echoing Solzhenitsyn, warned them that lies can only beget violence. That’s what they’ve got, all right. Will they admit the truth, confront their lies, and take their lumps?

Fuggeddaboutit. It’s all Rumsfeld’s fault!

What a bounder, he won’t even sign his own death notices! Time to heave him over the side, and put Wolfie in charge. An army that can engage every enemy in every time zone – at once. That’s what we need.

On March 25, 2003, Archbishop Edwin F. O’Brien, bishop for all the Catholic chaplains in the armed forces, wrote to Catholics in the armed forces:

"Long after the hostilities cease the debate likely will continue as to the moral justification for the armed force recently initiated by the United States and its allies. It is to be hoped that all factors which have led to our intervention will eventually be made public and that the full picture of the Iraqi regime’s weaponry and brutality will shed helpful light upon our President’s decision."

Now we know the sad facts, the magnitude of the lies, the immorality of that decision. And suddenly the perpetrators of the lies and violence want Rumsfeld to fall on his sword – so they can accede to the throne without any impediment (especially that imposed by truth).

I wonder, did the neocons really expect a cakewalk? Or did they merely promise one, while secretly (fine little Straussians that they are) hopeful that revolution would lead to conflagration of the entire region? Democratic words, Moaist tactics. Classic tyrant material.

Well, whatever happens, when the end comes, I have a feeling they’re not going to get the Armageddon they want. But Armageddon, they will get.
