Writes Peter Jon White:
After complaining that the writer of the book he's reviewing makes many "gaffes," Robert Messenger inserts this little gem:(their competitor Le Vélo sponsored the Paris-Brest-Paris one-day race).
Paris-Brest-Paris is a 750 mile (1200 kilometer) event. Brest is a long way from Paris, and they go there and back. The fastest riders complete it in 53 hours or so, riding all day and all night, just stopping for food and "personal necessities." Hardly a one day event.
I know many of the riders, since they buy their lights from me.
I also find it odd that he considers Le Tour to be the most difficult cycling race "Riders cover more than 2,000 miles in three weeks." RAAM (Race Across America, they cross the US, coast to coast) is about 3,000 miles in length. Last year's solo winner did it in 8 days.
