If political pundits Left and Right, presidential "scholars", and every other talking head can all agree on one positive aspect of a particular administration, then, a priori, it must be bad. In Ronald Reagan's case it is this: he restored the American people's confidence in the office of the President, which we know by now is the greatest locus of tyranny and threat to life, limb, and pocketbook in the modern world. For 20 straight years the nation had a string of more-or-less "failed" presidencies, each one reducing the stature of the office just a little bit more.....and then He came.
