To add on to what Tom was saying, the worship of WWII comes in many forms. For a long time, the History Channel played almost nothing but WWII related shows, which lead me to dub it the WWII Channel. While they've expanded their horizons, the bulk of the History Channel is still the history of technology and WWII.

Just look at all the books published on WWII. I'm not sure if there's more books on the Civil War or WWII, but I wouldn't be surprised at all if it were the latter.

Video games in which you reenact a pixelated WWII are among the highest sellers.

Countless movies and documentaries on the subject.

Makes sense though. In a country that smears anyone who is a non-interventionist, people are going to of course look fondly on the war that set America's foot in the doorway of every country in the world.
