Is opposing No Child Left Behind a hate crime?

Thanks to Chuck Muth for alerting me to a Washington Times report that Secretary of Education Rod Paige recently "likened opponents of the Bush administration school reforms to racial segregations of an earlier era who 'bred racism' by confining blacks to separate, inferior schools."

A Republican cabinet official using the swear words of the left to demonize those who abide by what was once the official GOP position (before the party was highjacked by compassionate conservatism)? Disgusting, but not surprising.

Opponents of No Child Left Behind do share George Wallace's opposition to federal tyranny and some are even rejecting federal money in order to break free of the grip of the federal educrats .

Even the Nation has realized that the bipartisan school reform agenda has little to do with improving education but is designed to ensure that big business has a ready supply of obedient workers and the government has a ready supply of obedeint citizens. But instead of supporting the growing opposition to nationalized education, the official conservative movement is working to destroy the independence of private education though vouchers.
